Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII will be sanctified April 27, 2014.


Pope Francis on Monday September 30th held the Public Ordinary Consistory for the forthcoming Canonization of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II. During the course of the Consistory in the Vatican's Consistory Hall, the Pope decreed that his two predecessors will be raised to Sainthood on April 27, 2014, the day on which the Church celebrates the Second Sunday of Easter and Divine Mercy.


It was the first consistory of Pope Francis, summoned to secure the canonization of two of his predecessors John XXIII and John Paul II will go up together on the altars April 27 next Sunday after Easter and therefore Feast of Mercy, solemnity instituted by John Paul II in 2005. A symbolic day because the Polish pope died on the eve of the anniversary he wanted to remember the Polish saint Faustina Kowalska. The day in late April to late spring, also seems to be the most suitable to allow the faithful Poles to reach the capital. The roads, in fact, already become impassable from November for snow and lots of Polish pilgrims, in a situation so uncomfortable, they should give up to get to Rome for the sanctification of 'their' Pope
